3.0 Teacher Guide to Introducing Students to CurricuLLM

Use this page the first time you introduce CurricuLLM to a class. Start with the teacher guide video, then watch the age-banded student intro videos so you know what students see. Use the checklist below when you run the first session. You can also point students at the Welcome to CurricuLLM student guide to rewatch on their own.

What students should know

Share these points in your own words before they log in:

• It's their learning tool. The first login includes a guided tour — ask them to follow it through.
• It won't hand them answers. CurricuLLM helps students work things out themselves. That can feel different from ChatGPT or a search engine — set that expectation early.
• It adapts to them. Questions should feel never too easy, never too hard. When they start a new topic, a short quiz (a learning check-in) may appear so CurricuLLM can pitch support at the right level.
• Safety blocks can misfire. Occasionally a conversation is blocked by mistake. Tell students to rephrase and try again, and to flag anything that feels wrong.
• Use the traffic light for when AI is allowed. Introduce the green / amber / red rules below so students know when CurricuLLM is on, when other AI tools need permission, and when AI is off. Say which light applies to today's task before they log in.

The AI traffic light

Use this simple classroom rule set every time you introduce or revisit CurricuLLM.

Green — AI allowed

• The teacher has said CurricuLLM is part of today's task (in class or for homework).
• Practicing skills, getting hints, checking understanding, or revising.
• Exploring independently in Galaxy View when the teacher says independent learning is fine.
• Using CurricuLLM to think through a problem — not to copy a finished answer.

Amber — CurricuLLM OK; ask for other AI

• CurricuLLM is fine to use.
• Ask your teacher before using other AI tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or similar.
• If a task does not say which tools are allowed, check before opening anything other than CurricuLLM.

Red — AI not allowed

• Tests, exams, quizzes, and timed assessments (unless the teacher explicitly says otherwise).
• Copying AI text and submitting it as your own work.
• Any task your teacher has marked as a red-light / no-AI activity.
• Asking CurricuLLM or any other AI to complete assessed work for you.

Tell the class which colour applies before they open the app. A short line works: "Today is green — use CurricuLLM for this task", "Today is amber — CurricuLLM is fine, ask before ChatGPT or Copilot", or "This assessment is red — no AI."

Before the session

• Confirm students can reach https://app.curricullm.com with their school login.
• Have a starting prompt ready (same prompt for the whole class makes it easier to support them).
• Decide the traffic-light colour for the session and write it on the board.
• Optionally play the teacher guide video (on this page), or the K–7 / Years 8–12 student intro, so the class hears the same framing.

During the session

• Let the guided tour and first conversations run — resist jumping in with answers.
• If someone is stuck or frustrated, remind them: stick with it, rephrase, or ask CurricuLLM for a hint.
• If a safety block appears, treat it as normal and help them re-ask differently.
• If a student is unsure whether AI is allowed, point them back to the traffic light for today's task.

After the session

• Debrief briefly: what felt useful, what felt hard, and when they'd use green / amber / red next.
• Link them to /training/student-guides/welcome-to-curricullm so they can rewatch the intro.
